"Voyage de Lumière"
“Light & Spirit” was the overarching leitmotif of the challenge. The designs were tasked with conveying the idea that every light – whether small or grand – can create a ripple of hope. Click here if you want to learn more about the design brief.
Both concepts submitted by Baries Design from Germany were highly praised by the jury, earning 2nd place in both categories.

The Journey of Light – tells the story of the Order of Malta not as text, but as a visual echo. A golden circle becomes a stage: within it, fine lines converge, symbolising the Order's locations across France with Paris the capital as their meeting point. They run from the edges towards the centre, becoming denser – and finding their common origin in the Maltese cross. What begins separately becomes one.
Circular typography is superimposed on this cartography of connectedness. White letters that tell the story of the Order's origins – those who read them uncover the origins, those who touch them feel it. They become texture, a whisper on gold. Their concentric circles are reminiscent of the grooves on a vinyl record. Not all the text circles are closed, and this is intentional. The story is not yet finished. It continues to turn.

Copper meets Bleu. The deep petrol carries the colour of France, anchoring the Bas Armagnac in its origin. The hot foil stamping in copper references the copper stills of distillation and lends the design a tactile depth.
The three-part label unfolds in a continuous S-curve. The eight fine lines also represent the eight "Langues" (national groupings) of the Order's members: Auvergne, Provence, France, Aragon, Castile and Portugal, Italy, Germany, and England (including Scotland and Ireland).
They guide the eye towards the Maltese star. Its eight points embody the eight virtues of the Order: loyalty, compassion, sincerity, courage, glory and honour, contempt of death, solidarity, and respect.
The organic S-movement creates tension between heritage and modernity, culminating at the lower label in the gentle swirl of a glass. Copper becomes liquid in motion.
Script conveys craftsmanship; spaced capitals assert authority. Origin, distillation, virtue – everything flows into one.
