DESK: Material Innovations for brand & packaging design
epda Industry Partners KURZ, Siegwerk, Sleever International and Stora Enso have joined forces and created a collection of their latest product innovations. The samples are nicely packed in the Designers’ Exploration Tool Kit box. Brand design is not just packaging.
Have you ever been asked by a client to design a ‘just the packaging’? Have you argued your need to design the whole End to End User Experience to be told that the shopper team, digital team or communications teams will mange those aspects with ‘their agencies’?
We cannot use Mad Men Age thinking and expect Experience Age outcomes.
In this presentation Jessica Felby will share examples with you of pack design pushed out to a brand experience versus a brand experience distilled onto a pack, case studies to give fuel to your arguments for holistic end to end thinking and processes that can help you and your clients think and work this way.
Jessica’s is understanding of the client-agency relationship comes from having worked on both sides. On the agency side she worked in the UK and Canada developing brands for small niche companies as well as large US retailers such as Walmart and Target. On the client side she worked as a Designer for Cussons Intl in the UK, as a Design Manager for Coca-Cola Europe in Brussels and latterly as Global Design Director for the Carlsberg Group in Copenhagen.

Next gen’s view: The Future of Packaging
How does the next generation of designers think about the Future of Packaging? In this session we will introduce you to an amazing packaging designer and artist: Sean Valies graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague, in 2018. Since then he has been working as a full-time designer at The Vegetarian Butcher repsonsible for the products’ brand & packaging design. Jane Struk, epda Board Member from Moscow and designer herself, will interview Sean about his utopian ideas on the future of packaging and share hers. We are excitedly awaiting the participation of all (young) creatives to join the discussion.
