The truth about food
7 million tonnes of food and drink are thrown away every year!
This cost us a lot and is bad for the environment too. So there is an urgent need to think about how to reduce food loss.
That’s why epda decided to work on the SAVE FOOD theme together with its members and its industrial packaging partners, Sleever International, Stora Enso and Starcke.
The topic of the 4th edition of the epda DIY competition was SAVE FOOD. We asked designers to develop packaging ideas that can help to reduce food loss, ideas that can include thoughts for communication, distribution and/or marketing strategies.

The Save Food Initiative
The SAVE FOOD initiative is based on cooperation between the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Messe Düsseldorf, kicked off at interpack 2011 with a congress on the subject of global food. Messe Düsseldorf and FAO agreed on their continued cooperation for the coming years and organised a second congress during interpack 2014.
The goal of the initiative is to bring together stakeholders from business, politics and research and thus encourage constructive dialogue in the search for solutions to curb food loss along the food value chain.
