Let’s listen to Jane Struk! epda Board Member and Creative Director at member agency Depot Branding Agency from Moscow, Jane revealed in an interview with epda Germany Representative Christian Prill what she believes can cause an agency to fail and what is important to prevent it from doing so:
What is the biggest danger that causes an agency to fail?
As most of us know, it’s never all plain sailing. There are a great many dangers that may cause an agency to fail, especially now that not everything depends on our will and desire. From my perspective, in times of the corona virus crisis, the lack of flexibility can be crucial for an agency. The “business as usual” approach doesn’t exist anymore. Planning for the unknown is challenging and to cope with it we all need to overthink all the processes from scratch, look ahead, protect the people and adjust as we go.
What is the most important characteristic of a successful agency?
It’s not easy to formulate a clear answer to this question. Otherwise, we would have a mechanic of success and live happily ever after:) Relationships are the key. Having good relationships inside the team is extremely important and we also should not forget about the relations with the clients. To get to know the clients very well, on a one-to-one basis, to foster better understanding of their needs – that’s one of the most important parts of successful work.
Constant learning and multiplying skills. You never know what’s around the corner. The world is changing every single minute and we must change with it.
A clear understanding of who we are. Being self-aware is greatly important for a successful design agency. Formulating the vision and the mission helps to find your unique way and to find the right people.
